I have always had so many people tell me. “I do not know what to wear to a dog portrait session.” “Should I just wear comfy clothes?”

Honestly, all these questions are okay to ask and I totally understand feeling lost especially when it comes to knowing what to wear to a shoot your dog is supposed to be the star. Don’t get me wrong this is about your dog but it is also about you.

So many of my clients start off by telling me “I just want photos of my dogs, I do not want to be in them.” Then once they see the images in my gallery it seems like a switch goes off.

Let me first tell you, this session is to showcase your amazing pooch but also show YOUR bond with them.

Tip # 1

Wear something that you don’t have to fuss with like any off-the-shoulder tops or dresses, it needs to be functional.

Tip # 2

Wear booties, tennis shoes, and boots with wide heels or sandals

Shoes are something you need to consider. I know handling an excited dog is not easy and of course, do not wear heels, however, you also do not want to go too casual either. Wearing a nice pair of boots or nice new pair of tennis shoes is the way to go that way you are chic but still casual & functional.

Tip # 3

Wear something that coordinates with your dog.

If your dog is wearing a bandana with a plaid pattern see if you have one similar.

You can also pick out what collar your dog is going to wear and match your jewelry to it.

Tip # 4

Don’t forget to accessories!

Wearing bracelets, rings, or even a nice necklace trust me really is amazing when doing close-ups!

Tip # 5

Wear a business casual outfit

Come in jeans, a nice blouse, a buttoned shirt or a nice sweater.

You can go simple style just make sure it fits the style of the shoot along with your dog's look as well.

You do not need to overthink this, the point is to have fun and show off your sweet pooch!
